Chapter Three

Brent made sure he had everything in place before going to Joel’s room. He’d made his boy sleep in his little room on his own last night. The last night of their original contract. He’d insisted because it was important for today. The first day with no contract between them.

He knocked on Joel’s door, then opened it. “Good morning, boy.”

Joel was already up, sitting and doing Sudoku puzzles cross-legged on his perfectly made bed. “Good morning, Master.”

God, look at how far they had come, how settled his fighting sub -- the sub he’d paid for -- had become.

“Are you ready for today?” It was the first day of the rest of their lives.

“Yes, Master.” The words were easy, sure, confident.

“I have plans for today. Beginning with burning this.” He held out Joel’s contract.

Joel searched his eyes. “That’s my contract saying you’re done with me today.”

“No, boy. It’s the contract saying I own you. Today we burn it, and you are officially here of your own free will. No contract, no money, just you and me.”

“Yes. You and me.” Joel smiled and unfolded himself from the bed, coming to him.

Brent wrapped his arms around Joel and took a kiss. It seemed different somehow, deeper.

“I can’t stop smiling, Master.”

And it was a good look on Joel.

“As long as you don’t think I’m going to be suddenly going easy on you.” Brent would continue pushing as hard as he could.

“No, Sir. I’m happy.”

Brent answered Joel’s words with a long, slow kiss. “I am, too.” In fact, he’d never been so settled in his soul. “Come on. Let’s do this.”

He gave Joel the contract and took him to the living room, to the fireplace.

“Will we sign a new one, Master?”

“Yes. A true contract.” After Joel accepted his collar.

Brent lit the fire he’d prepared, watching the kindling catch, then the log. Joel was still grinning, just as happy as could be. Brent couldn’t believe how lucky he’d been. How a fascinating prospect had turned into this glorious relationship. Joel was made for him, made for his need, and he was made to push Joel, stretch Joel’s boundaries and make him fly.

He handed the contract over to Joel. “You do the honors, boy.”

Joel chuckled, tossed the contract into the fire. Brent got a wealth of satisfaction from watching it burn. It was the last thing that held Joel to him. Aside from their love and devotion to each other.

“It’s over,” murmured Joel. “This part of things.”

“It is. Now something pure can take its place.” He would know from this day onward that Joel was here because he wanted to be. And Joel would know Brent was in it for the same reason.

Joel gazed up at him. “It was pure before, for me. It’s been love for a while, Master.”

“The contract was still between us, though. Now it isn’t.” He kissed Joel, then slowly dropped to one knee.

“Master?” Joel reached for him.

He took Joel’s hands. “Today I kneel before you and offer you my heart and my soul.
